94 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2018 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese from Christophe Schaefer is another absolutely stellar example of how strong this Prädikat level is in this vintage. The pure and utterly refined nose delivers an elegant aromatic constellation of white cherries, pears, a beautiful base of slate, a youthful hint of petrol, vanilla bean and a topnote of white flowers. On the palate the wine is pure, medium-full, complex and still youthfully reticent, with lovely detail and depth, bright acids and a long, filigreed and dancing finish. Classic. 2023-2075. (Mar/Apr 2019)"

92 points Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 17 19. The 2018er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese was harvested at about 93° Oechsle and was fermented down to fully fruity-styled levels of residual sugar. It proves rather reduced and only gradually reveals its gorgeous nose of pineapple, greengage, herbs and fine spices, all wrapped into some whipped cream. The wine is nicely fruity and yet also racy on the palate and leaves a superb feel of herbs and minerals in the tense finish. 2028-2048. (Jun 2019)"

92 points David Schildknecht (Vinous): "[$54 list] Lightly poached pear and apple are tinged with vanilla on a lovely nose. Vanilla cream mingles with the pear and apple on a glossy, caressing yet stimulatingly juicy palate. The purity of fruit, adeptly supported by the wine’s residual sugar, is irresistible, and persists into a hauntingly persistent finish of utmost delicacy and consummate refreshment. Although for now at least this offering doesn’t sound in the mineral register, it’s still ringingly clear as well as pure. Drink: 2020-2038. (Nov 2020)"
