96 points Tim Atkin, MW: "(13%). A red wine that has done great things for the reputation of Grenache in Piekenierskloof, this comes from Bielie and Erasmus van Zyl's farm and is Eben Sadie's version of a Gredos red. Grown on Table Mountain sandstone, it has layers of pomegranate and redcurrant, savoury tannins, very subtle oak and ethereal, seductively floral aromas. A wine that combines weight and lightness of touch. 2025-35. (2024)"
96 points Malu Lambert (Decanter): "We love this wine during fermentation; strawberry, cherry and pomegranate perfume the entire cellar,' says winemaker Eben Sadie. An enticing translucent bright red hue, all that fruit is there, lifted with an ethereal floral note. Only concrete is used for fermentation and ageing, 60% whole cluster, with 30 days on the skins before basket-pressing back into concrete for a year’s rest. A core of round, soft plummy fruit is encased in a dry cradle of tannins; freshness ribbons through emphatically, with subtle earthy tones and lines of delicate spice. Drinking Window: 2025-2036. (4/2/25)"
93 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2023 Soldaat is Grenache planted on quartz sandstone. It has a well-defined, open-knit bouquet of Morello cherry and strawberry, moderate in terms of complexity. To put it in banal terms, it might be the 'prettiest' of Sadie's reds this year. The palate is all pomegranate and red cherries. Fresh and vibrant with only light tannins, this is not powerful, but it’s very expressive, possessing a lilting quality that is just irresistible. Lovely. Drink: 2024-2040. (Sep 2024)"
