94 points (17/20)/'Le Coup de Coeur,' La Revue du Vin de France: "The Clos Prieur is endowed with an energetic juice and fairly bright fruit: the breed of this terroir is skilfully expressed in the 2016 vintage, with a length and complexity worthy of a premier cru. (2019)"

93 points Bruce Sanderson (Wine Spectator): "Shows plenty of depth to the black cherry, plum, olive and spice flavors. A pleasant grain to the tannins lends texture, and the structure is solid. Finishes with a cascade of fruit. Best from 2023 through 2040. (10/17/18)"

90-92 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur has a clean and fresh raspberry and cranberry leaf-scented bouquet, delicate at first but gaining intensity with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp red berry fruit, nicely poised and so easygoing on the finish you could drink it now! Very fine. Drink: 2019-2029. (Dec 2017)"

91 points/'Outstanding/Top value,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "A very Gevrey-style nose features ripe and very fresh aromas of game, underbrush, humus, pungent earth and an array of dark berry fruit scents. Here too the mouthfeel of the utterly delicious and slightly more mineral-inflected middle weight flavors is sleek and intense while concluding in a youthfully austere, firmly structured and impressively complex finish. Once again the quality Roy achieves with villages level vineyards is rarely matched and this is highly recommended. Drink: 2023+. (Jan 2018)"
