96+ points Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Advocate): "The Roy Estate Proprietary Red Wine has a new label name and design, and it will be called Mr. Evans Estate Proprietary Red going forward. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot aged for 18 to 20 months in 75% new 225-liter Taransaud French oak barrels, the 2016 Mr. Evans Estate Proprietary Red is very deep garnet-purple in color, with beautiful cassis, crushed blackberries and wild blueberries scents with touches of violets, tilled soil, fungi, menthol and smoked meats plus a hint of cedar chest. Medium to full-bodied and tightly wound with loads of mineral accents coming through in the mouth, it's framed by very ripe, fine-grained tannins, finishing long and layered. 800 cases produced, to be released in the spring of 2019. Drink: 2020-2040. (Oct 2018)"
95 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "TThe 2016 Proprietary Red Mr. Evans has turned out beautifully. Ripe red cherry, plum, rose petal, mint and sweet spice give the Proprietary Red an extra kick of brightness that plays off the intense fruit nicely. All the elements come together beautifully. This is one of the more complete vintages of Shirley Roy's Proprietary Red I can remember tasting. Drink: 2022-2036. (Dec 2018)"
