94 points Christy Canterbury, MW (TimAtkin.com): "Always one of the most elegant Lavaux, this is more fruit-driven than usual, but its characteristic backbone is still clearly in evidence. Nudging tannins and racy acidity corral the lightly pudgy mid-palate. It should be approachable earlier than usual, maybe after four to five years. There are two parcels here with approximately 50-year-old vines. (2025)"
94 points La Revue du Vin de France: "Refined, very fresh and subtle, Lavaux Saint-Jacques offers finesse and persistence, imbued with a beautiful vitality and freshness. (2026)"
92-94 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "Just the same ruby purple, discreet as ever with a refreshing cooler touch to the fruit. There are more tannins in the Lavaux-St-Jacques which still need extra ageing, but there is a juicy energy to the fruit. (Nov 2024)"
91-93 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has an exquisitely defined bouquet with perfumed black cherry, raspberry, crushed stone and a light marine influence. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a similar fruit profile to the Gevrey Village and a poised yet persistent, black-pepper-tinged finish. Give this two or three years in bottle. Drink: 2028-2048. (Dec 2025)"
90-93 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques offers up notes of dark berries and plums, mingled with orange zest, peonies and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, lively and floral, it's pretty and fine-boned, concluding with a saline finish. (Jan 2025)"
90-93 points/'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a .76 ha parcel). Cool and agreeably fresh aromas are comprised by notes of earth and sauvage-inflected dark berries and the barest intimation of oak. There is better size and weight if not necessarily better concentration to the more mineral-driven medium weight flavors that conclude in a lingering and classically austere finale. Lovely and understated as well as clearly age-worthy. Drink: 2035+. (Jan 2025)"
92 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "Domaine Rousseau’s 2023 Lavaux St. Jacques is already beautifully expressive on the nose, offering up a complex blend of sweet dark berries, black plums, grilled meats, currant leaf, a fine base of soil, woodsmoke, raw cocoa and a touch of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and nicely defined by its underlying minerality, with an excellent core of fruit, lovely focus and balance, fine-grained tannins and a long, precise and nascently complex finish. Good juice. 2036-2075. (Jan/Feb 2025)"
Bill Nanson (Burgundy Report): "(More towards Varoilles). Finer, more airy nose. In the mouth another step more direct, this flavour melting beautifully. Then there’s a burst of textured, faintly grained, middle and finishing flavour. Extra long and a bit more mineral – I’d keep this a little longer. The last drops in the glass are more red fruited… (Jan 2025)"
