98-100 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2020 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has an even more complex bouquet than the Chambertin - a quite profound, quite riveting cornucopia of red berry fruit, sous-bois and crushed stone all delivered with breathtaking delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, perhaps more saline than the Chambertin, wonderful acidity with real depth and structure towards the finish that already feels extremely persistent. Potential wine of the vintage, right here. Drink: 2030-2070. (Dec 2021)"
99 points Christy Canterbury, MW (TimAtkin.com): "This wine has gravitas. Yes, it's bold and structured and sizzles with black fruit and mineral intensity, and it is a heftier wine than the Chambertin. Its blackberry and black plum fruits are chunkier, its tannins are broader and its acidity is verbose. But, that's the point. This Clos de Bèze is a thrilling, energizing crescendo with every element building together beautifully. It is a powerhouse, but through and through, it is a Burgundian one. 2028-50. (2022)"
95-99 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "A denser blacker purple after the Chambertin, the nose too suggests more overt weight. Some chocolate notes here, the tannins a bit firmer, more in the blockbuster mode though still a delight, but we will need to see later if the Clos de Bèze can manage its higher alcohol (14.5%) as well as the Chambertin appears to be doing. (Nov 2021)"
98 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(1.42 ha; 100% new wood where the inside of the barrel had been steam washed first). This is even more reserved and requires extended swirling to gradually coax the even spicier aromas of red currant, black raspberry, discreet wood toast and a floral top note. There is superb mid-palate density to the equally sized and powerful flavors that brim with dry extract as well as an abundance of minerality on the massively long finish where a touch of warmth slowly emerges. This isn't quite as structured, but it is still a wine that should reward between two and three decades of cellaring. This too is stunningly brilliant. Drink: 2045+. (Jan 2023)"
98 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2020 Clos de Bèze from Domaine Rousseau is another brilliant wine in the making. The nose jumps from the glass in a very sappy blend of sweet dark berries, black cherries, grilled meats, espresso, woodsmoke, just a dollop of spice tones and a refined foundation of nutty new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very pure and mineral-driven, with a sappy core of black fruit, great focus and balance and a very, very long, complex and ripely tannic finish. Another great, great wine in the making. 2040-2100. (Nov/Dec 2021)"
98 points La Revue du Vin de France: "Notes of rosehip and old rose in Clos-de-Bèze, fleshy but eloquent, a veritable taffeta of fresh fruit in a fleshy coating. If its nobility of expression is not in doubt, the woodiness marks it a little at this stage, but should integrate. (2023)"
98 points Bettane & Desseauve Guide (2023).
96-98 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "The 2020 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is a rich, sensual wine that bursts from the glass with aromas of blackberries, loamy soil, smoked meats, exotic spices, rose petals, orange rind and black truffles. Full-bodied, multidimensional and fleshy, it's broad and concentrated, with a more generous, muscular profile than the precise, tightly wound Chambertin. Which will ultimately emerge superior is anyone's guess, but the Clos de Bèze is obviously more forward at this early juncture. (Jan 2022)"
