93 points/'5 Star Wine,' Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "The Rotys have 5 plots in all in this emblematic vineyard for the domaine. The oldest vines date back to 1934, and mostly the original vine stocks remain. There is a brightness to the purple black colour with a vivacity of ripe fruit on the nose. Clearly a much greater density of fruit here, with a succulent ripe cherry note, good acidity as much as tannic structure. Extremely promising, indeed potentially magical. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted: November 2022."

92+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2020 Champs Chenys is another simply outstanding example of the vintage. The bouquet is pure, deep and complex, offering up scents of black plums, black cherries, smoked meats, dark chocolate, a beautiful base of soil, woodsmoke and cedary oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, complex and sappy at the core, with lovely depth and mineral undertow, fine-grained, ripe tannins and a long, well balanced and beautifully focused finish. Fine, fine juice. 2032-2075. (Nov/Dec 2022)"

92+ points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Champs-Chenys Vieilles Vignes is the most serious of Roty's lieu-dit bottlings, unwinding in the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, blackberries, spices, licorice and rose petal. Medium to full-bodied, layered and velvety, it's deep and concentrated, with ripe tannins and a complete, seamless profile. Drink: 2027-2047. (Jan 2023)"

91 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Champs-Chenys has a perfumed and floral nose - peony and iris flower complementing the black cherry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, fine acidity, but then like the Clos Prieur Bas it clams up towards the finish and says 'Come Back Later.' Drink: 2028-2042. (Jan 2023)"

91 points/'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from vines planted in 1934 that directly abut Charmes-Chambertin). Once again, the expressive and layered nose is notably ripe while managing to retain good freshness to the baked plum, cassis and spice aromas. There is excellent density to the intense, sappy and palate coating medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a bitter pit fruit, austere and very firm finale. This too is a fine Gevrey villages that is an impressive combination of refinement and power. Drink: 2032+. (Jan 2023)"
