96 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 1993 Roty Charmes is a stunning wine, with less of the mammoth power of most vintages of this wine, but much more nascent finesse and complexity. The bouquet explodes from the glass with scents of sweet cassis, plum, blueberry, mocha, grilled meats, herbs, minerals and toasty new oak. On the palate the wine is quite full-bodied, but nowhere near as massive as is usually the case with this cuvee, with a great core of fruit, potential silkiness, firm tannins, and a long, complex and stunning finish. The 1993 Charmes’ sense of balance and depth of pure fruit should carry it nearly as long in the bottle as the more massively tannic renditions of this wine in vintages such as 1985, 1989, 1990 and 1995. This is great, great juice. 2006-2040. (Nov 1999)"

95 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "Incredible spice, earth and game aromas are framed by still noticeable (but not dominant) oak notes that lead to powerful, wonderfully textured and precise flavors that offer incredible depth and simply superb extract plus length to burn. While the wood is somewhat stronger than I personally prefer, this has so much style and sheer breadth that it is virtually impossible not to be wowed by it. The wine also possesses near perfect balance, which should enable it to age for years, perhaps decades as this is one stunner of a wine. Drink: Now+. (May 2014)"

94 points Stephen Tanzer (Vinous): "Medium red; not as saturated as the last few samples. Wonderfully complex, showy aromas and flavors of raspberry, dried flowers, smoke and tobacco complicated by torrefaction notes of mocha and cocoa powder and a suggestion of dried fruits. Silky and expressive in the mouth, with its appeal heightened by subtle salinity and a sexy, almost exotic suggestion of dried apricot. The discreet, well-integrated tannins dust the palate on the suave aftertaste, with notes of dried fruits and fig emerging with air. I've checked in on this wine regularly in recent years and it has been consistently alluring. (14.15% alcohol; 3.3 pH; 23 h/h) Drink: 2019-2035. (Feb 2019)"
