96 points Tim Atkin, MW (Jan 2018).

94 points James Suckling: "A more mineral style from a plot at the top of the cru. This is later ripening and it retains the acidity. This has long, smooth and majestic style with a wealth of peaches. Very smooth and ripe with a grilled-hazelnut finish. Good freshness for the vintage. Pastry-like and succulent at the finish, too. Superior length. Drink or hold. (7/20/18)"

94 points (17/20) La Revue du Vin de France: "Solid, substantial, and more reserved, Butteau navigates between the foam and the spray, imposing its serene depth. (Jan 2019)"

93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The Raveneaus’ 2016 Butteaux is a beautiful and quite classic wine in the making. The bouquet is a bit more reserved than any of the other premier crus up to this point in the tasting, but very promising in its mélange of pear, a touch of tangerine, lemon, chalky soil tones, gentle notes of beeswax and a fine topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and beautifully balanced, with a fine core, bright, zesty acids and fine length and grip on the very long and very precise finish. A classic. 2023-2045. (Nov/Dec 2017)"

93 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "The Butteaux is excellent in 2016, offering up a classic nose of apple, spring flowers, beeswax and chalky soil tones, framed by a light reduction. On the palate the wine is cool, glossy and textural. It's full-bodied, broader than the tensile Montée de Tonnerre, its minerality married with a succulent core of fruit. Drink: 2022-2035. (10/19/17)"

92 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2016 Chablis Butteaux 1er Cru is terrific. I must say I am pleasantly surprised after encountering a far less impressive bottle of Montée de Tonnerre recently. Aromatic and finely delineated, the Butteaux is all charm. Citrus, orchard fruit, mint and dried herbs are all woven together in a Chablis endowed with lovely balance and a feeling of understated depth that is quite appealing. I wouldn’t wait forever on this, however. Drink: 2022-2031. (Aug 2022)"
