96 points The World of Fine Wine: "The 2001 has more immediate appeal, leading some to the temptation of proclaiming it 'better' than the 2000. But that is an error. The nose here is cooler--more blue than black fruit--somewhat in the vein of the 2010 but just not as 'large scaled,' since it has one full degree less alcohol, at 13%. The 2000, whose blend is similar to that of the 2001, shows superior depth and length as it sits in the glass. Succulent, hickory-smoked aspects on the mid-palate develop, too. But if you have both vintages, you should enjoy the 2001s now and over the next 10 years, and then open your 2000 in five years or so. Great potential. (Issue #64; 2019)"

95 points Wine Spectator: "Tight and muscular, with a solid core of fruit and racy tannins. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins, yet silky and refined. This is very, very toned and serious. A wine for long-term aging. Best after 2010. (3/31/03)"

95 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "Tasted blind at Bordeaux Index’s 2000 tasting in London. This seems quite fleshy on the nose, just a touch of reduction at first although it blows away. Cranberry, strawberry, a touch of fig, then more secondary aromas coming through: saddle leather and Provencal herbs. The palate is medium-bodied, quite opulent and generous, silky smooth tannins but there is also real backbone to this wine. As always, this wine is masculine and broody at birth but now is coming into its own and lightening up. Red-berried fruits, a touch of pepper, orange zest, tightly coiled and pointed towards the finish. Great weight and grip on the finish. Superb. Drink 2013-2040. Tasted March 2010. (Sep 2010)"

95 points Bettane & Desseauve's Guide to the Wines of France: "This has immaculate balance between acidity and alcohol, great finesse of aromas, subtle and elegant tannins,, great clarity, and admirable precision in the terroir definition. Drink: 2011 up to 2025. (2011)"

94 points Jane Anson (Decanter): "This was a warmer vintage than 2001, with more tannins and alcohol present. It's a little foursquare at first and still a little less seductive than the 2001, but it will go the distance for sure. Notes of woodsmoke, cigar box, leather, hickory and exotic spices appear on the palate, with real width, depth and density throughout. A very good wine. Harvest ran from 22 September to 6 October, giving a 37hl/ha yield. Drinking Window: 2019-2038. (Apr 2019)"

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "At first taste, this wine seems more new world than Bordeaux. But then the subtle, perfumed aromas and structured fruit show through, along with the clean acidity and black tannic fruits. Give this wine at least 12 years before opening. (Jun 2003)"

94 points Wine & Spirits (Dec 2003).

17.5/20 points Clive Coates (The Wines of Bordeaux): "Fullish colour. Classy nose. Rich and concentrated. Fullish but with true Margaux velvet. Medium-full body. Ripe, balanced and stylish. Long. This has real depth. Fine. 2010-2028. (2004)"
