92-93 points Jasper Morris, MW: "Exactly the same wine until the moment of putting in wood or in amphora. Not immediately a difference in colour but definitely in the nose. No vanilla of course, perhaps a slightly resinous note, a slight sign of under ripe fruit. The texture in the mouth is rather lovely, then the resin character returns. There is however a generosity and indeed detail of fruit which is very attractive. Tasted: November 2018."
91-93 points/'Sweet spot,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "A cool, airy and decidedly restrained nose combines notes of red and dark pinot fruit, earth and lovely spice nuances. The lilting and vibrant middle weight flavors possess good minerality and a beguiling texture on the balanced and lingering finish. Drink: 2027+. (Apr 2019)"
91-93 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2017 Volnay Clos de la Bousse d’Or 1er Cru (Cuvée Amphore) is raised for 12 months in clay amphora baked at a maximum of 1,080° Celsius, with no wood contact. It has an attractive bouquet with less "inkiness" and more pronounced tertiary aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with that same fine acidity as the regular cuvée, with just a little more firmness and transparency on the finish. I actually think this is a step up from the regular cuvée. Drink: 2022-2040. (Jan 2019)"
