93 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$96 list] Poggio Antico is one of the brightest stars in 2004 Brunello di Montalcino. Paola Gloder and her team deliver a gorgeous wine that reaches to the highest levels of aromatic richness and intensity. The wine is succulent, concentrated and elegant with amazing persistency. Only the slight sourness of its tannins prevented it from scoring higher. Age five more years. (Jun 2009)"

92 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino has held up very nicely. Black cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco, licorice and dark spices notes are all pushed forward. This is an especially dark, brooding style, but it works well. There is plenty to like, that much is evident. Just starting to enter its tertiary stage, the 2004 has enough pure richness to drink well for another 7-10 years. The rich, explosive Poggio Antico style is very much in evidence. Drink: 2016-2026. (Oct 2016)"

92 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "[$96 list] Good deep red. Pretty aromas of currant, coffee, graphite, smoke and tobacco. Plump, silky and suave, with a restrained sweetness and lovely inner-mouth aromatic character to the spicy flavors. This broad, round wine benefits from harmonious framing acidity. Finishes with sweet tannins and very good length. Very expressive, ripe sangiovese. (Jul/Aug 2009)"

91 points Wine Spectator: "Displays aromas of raspberries, flowers and minerals. Full-bodied, yet refined and racy, with hints of black pepper and blackberry character. Racy finish. Drink now. (4/30/09)"

91 points James Suckling: "Dried flowers and attractive, herb-wrapped red fruit. The palate offers ripe black cherries and a wealth of supple and fine tannins, all sitting in harmony with more savory, earthy and terracotta notes. Drink now. (1/11/19)"
