95 points Wine Spectator: "Really distinctive, with a gutsy, chewy frame supporting clove, blood orange, coffee, brick dust, macerated currant fruit, warm fig and hoisin sauce notes. The long, grippy finish has lots of mesquite, braised chestnut and spice notes. A classic throwback. Best from 2010 through 2030. 500 cases made. (11/15/08)"

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I’ve always loved the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape from Pégau, and it’s drank beautifully since release. This was my last bottle (unfortunately, but no regrets) and it’s certainly hit it plateau of maturity where it will stay for another decade. Today it offers a classic Pégau bouquet of exotic spice, pepper, truffle and gamey, meaty, animal notes. It’s fully mature on the palate, yet has a core of sweet fruit, some still present savory tannin and a great finish. It’s unquestionably one of the wines of the vintage and is just a joy to drink. (7/18/17)"

91-93 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Ruby-red color. Ripe, pungent aromas of smoky red berries and plum tinged with rose, lavender and black olive. Sweet and fat in the mouth, with creamy red berry flavors and a strong note of plum liqueur. Finishes very sweet and long, with supple tannins and a lingering impression of dried flowers. (Jan/Feb 2006)"
