96 points Jonathan Cristaldi (Decanter): "Paul Hobb's Coombsville Cabernet was fermented with native yeasts, spending 29 days macerating with pump-overs and délestage, followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation in a barrel. The wine was aged 18 months in 53% new French oak. 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, and 4% Merlot were bottled unfined and unfiltered. Super expressive and aromatic notes of dark chocolate, iron-like minerality, and bright huckleberry fruits, with raspberry, plums and sweet baking spices. Profoundly layered, with great density balanced by a lightness of extremely fine-grained tannins, complemented by dusty, chalky minerals on the wine's full-bodied finish. Drinking Window: 2024-2050. (6/20/24)"
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville (83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, and 4% Merlot) is another deep purple-hued effort from Hobbs that has sensational purity in its cassis and juicy blackberry fruits. These are supported by textbook notes of graphite, freshly sharpened pencils, and spring flowers. Playing in the medium to full-bodied end of the spectrum, with ultra-fine tannins, a seamless, elegant texture, and outstanding length, this will compete with wine two to three times the price. It will evolve for 15-20 years. Drink: 2023-2043. (12/26/23)"
95 points International Wine Report: "The 2021 Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon from Paul Hobbs is fantastic. This impresses as it bursts open with seductive aromas of ripe dark currants and black cherries woven together with sweet baking spices, mocha, sage, gravel and hints of dusty minerals. On the palate this is full-bodied and voluptuous, with beautifully polished tannins. It displays outstanding overall depth with layers of beautifully ripe dark fruits and sweet spice flavors resonating through the opulent finish. While this is already absolutely sensational, it also possesses the potential to age gracefully and offer up to decades of drinking pleasure. Drink: 2024-2042. (Oct 2023)"
94 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$130 list] With concentration and density, this Cabernet Sauvignon from the internationally known Paul Hobbs, spins with flavors of dried tobacco, resinous woods, and a blend of sweet, warmed spices on dark fruits. Firm tannins and balanced acidity bring impressive persistence housed in a well balanced frame. Alcohol 14.5%. (Dec 2024)"
93 points Joe Czerwinski (Wine Advocate): "Blended from lots that didn't make the grade to be in the single-vineyard wine, Hobbs's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Coombsville is 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, with small portions of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Matured in about 50% new French oak, it offers up hints of crushed stone and pencil shavings, plus scents of blueberries, cassis, loam and vanilla. It's medium to full-bodied and reasonably concentrated, with intense flavors and a velvety feel on the lingering finish. As far as Napa Cabs go, it's even a respectable value. Drink: 2025-2040. (Jan 2024)"
