97 points Jane Anson (Decanter): "A powerful wine, full of black chocolate, cocoa powder and olive paste, layers of tightly packed flavour, many consider this to be the best of the decade and it is certainly extremely powerful. Dense, smoked bacon and chocolate flavours, needs to be paired with some equally rich food, and needs to be relaxed into - definitely a wine where you need to kick your shoes off, not make any appointments for the rest of the night, and take your time. A long life ahead of it also, if you choose to wait - this would benefit from longer in bottle. 1% Malbec and 6% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 20 days skin contact (note from this point the skin contact often heads a little shorter again). A perfect vintage until rains during harvest. Drinking Window: 2021-2042. (9/13/19)"
96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I loved the 2007 Opus One, which certainly brings another level of richness and opulence compared to previous vintages. Cassis, lavender, dried flowers, and cedar are just some of its nuances, and this full-bodied, deep, velvety, uber-sexy 2007 is drinking perfectly today. It shows the ripe, up-front style of the vintage while staying nicely balanced. It should keep through 2032, although there’s no need to delay gratification. Drink: 2023-2032. (2/16/23)"
96 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "There is so much to like about the 2007 Opus One. A wine that captures the essence of the year, the 2007 is exotic, flashy and striking. Kirsch, rose petals, pomegranates and spices form a fabric of compelling beauty. The 2007 is rich, sumptuous and generous, just as it should be. Threads of striking perfume are woven throughout, adding aromatic lift and pure sensuality. Readers who like more structured wines are likely to gravitate towards vintages such as 2010, but years like 2007 offer immense pleasure and an immediacy I find impossible to resist. A sumptuous, layered finish rounds things out in stunning style. The blend is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. (Jun 2013)"
96 points Peter Moser (Falstaff): "Strong ruby with purple reflections and broader rim lightening. Delicate bourbon vanilla, black cherry, fine nuances of cassis and orange zest in the background and a touch of fresh figs underneath. Substantial, pronounced in fruit, dark berry confit, round, ripe tannins, fine nougat, powerful and long lasting. Sweet fruit on the finish, quite massive style, chocolatey even in the aftertaste, still good as undeveloped, has a great future ahead of it. A concentrated, bombastic style for the long term. (11/22/18)"
95 points Robert Parker: "Two of the strongest wines ever made at Opus One, the 2007 has terrific black currant fruit, licorice, incense, and subtle smoke, an opulent, even voluptuous mouthfeel, dazzling purity and texture, and a skyscraper-like mouthfeel. This is a sensational Opus One, with sweet tannin and impressive precision and depth. It can be drunk now or cellared for 25+ years. (Dec 2009)"
94 points Wine Spectator: "From a ripe, warm, California-style vintage, this offers intense plum paste and cassis flavors at the core, with savory and tobacco hints adding detail along the edges. A cast iron note is buried on the finish. Strong and slightly muscular in style, but still shows the vineyard's DNA. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Non-blind Opus One vertical. Best from 2020 through 2035. (11/9/19)"
93 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Deep red-ruby. Very sexy, perfumed aromas of ripe black raspberry, roast coffee and flowers; there's a wildness here that I find compelling. Quite fresh and juicy in the mouth, but with a slightly exotic character to the dark berry, black cherry, smoky oak and bitter chocolate flavors. Not a fat style of 2007 but perfumed and energetic. Most impressive today on the firm, long finish, where substantial ripe tannins reach the front teeth. Built for a long evolution in bottle. I'd love to compare this against the 2006 in ten years. (May/Jun 2010)"
93 points James Suckling: "If you like your Opus on the fruit forward side, then this is for you. Plums and raspberries verging on jam, with chocolate covered cherries on the nose. Full bodied, soft, and friendly with caressing tannins and a very fruity finish. Drink this now while the 2006 ages. (2/15/11)"
93 points California Grapevine: "Medium-dark ruby; attractive, herbal, slightly stemmy, cassis and black cherry fruit aroma showing some elegance and complexity; full body; rich, intense, currant and dark cherry fruit flavors with notes of spice and dark chocolate; well balanced and structured for bottle aging; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Very highly recommended. 14.7% alcohol; 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec. (Oct/Nov 2010)"
Stephen Brook (The Finest Wines of California): "(shortly before bottling) Dumb black-fruit nose, somewhat stalky. Quite different on the palate: sumptuous and full-bodied, generous and succulent, with rich blackberry fruit and fine acidity and length. (2011)"
