99 points Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com): "Incredibly intense wild herb and berry aromas plus flinty energy on the extremely focused, medium-bodied palate. Then a giant wave of stony minerality washes over you, almost knocking you off your feet. So filigreed and brilliant in the almost endless finish. Still so young, this great dry riesling masterpiece needs decanting and large glasses if you want to drink it young. From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2026. (9/8/24)"

97 points Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): "The Kirrweiler 2023 Kastanienbusch Riesling GG opens remarkably fine and flinty, with a stunningly tropical bouquet of just-ripe mango aromas intermingled with tea and herbal as well as rose resin and vegetal aromas. Very complex and also highly refined, it's a beautifully intense and noble nose. Sourced from the highest, steepest and most shallow part of Rebholz's four-hectare holdings in this 18-hectare cru, this is a remarkably pure and saline yet dense and intense, very complex Riesling from red-colored Rotliegend soils, a conglomerate of volcanic (melaphyre) rocks, slate, sand and clay. This is a fascinating, bone dry yet not ascetic but juicy and textural Riesling that is the most complete of the GGs. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in January 2025. Drink: 2025-2065. (3/6/25)"

94-96 points Anne Krebiehl, MW (Vinous): "The 2023 Riesling Birkweiler Kastanienbusch Grosses Gewächs grows on Permian volcanic formations. A hint of passion fruit sets a tropical note on the nose, quite aromatic with a proper crackle of flint. The palate is juicy and has a darker aspect, reminiscent of Reine Claude skins, yet it maintains a lemon edge. Riper fruit glimpses through on the finish, revealing juicy peach and ripest nectarine with a gorgeous bitterness that makes the mouth water. (Bone-dry) Drink: 2028-2060. (Sep 2024)"

95 points Caro Maurer, MW (Decanter): "The Rebholz family's specialty is actually Pinot Blanc. However, their top vineyard, Kastanienbusch, with its ancient Rotliegend soil, can also produce exceptional Riesling. This wine serves as a prototype for Palatinate Riesling: powerful and crisp, yet still impenetrable in its youth. It exhibits spicy notes of white pepper, lemon pepper, lemon peel, and peach stone, while still carrying the 'baby fat' with a hint of yeastiness and smokiness. The acidity is ripe and still prominent. Difficult to access, but undeniably powerful. The length stretches like a tattoo. Drinking Window: 2024-2055. (8/25/24)"
