95 points Tim Atkin, MW (Jan 2018).

93-95 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "Malolactic just finished. Fresh purple black, some oak and some malolactic notes. Then a surge of glamorous fruit with some wood tannins behind and a small point of acidity. Ripe fruit, accessible, luxurious and very persistent. Pure, silky and with some energy. (2018)"

93.6 points CellarTracker.com community score.

92-94 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2016 Petits Monts from Maxime Cheurlin was also just at the tail end of its malo or had just finished up, but it was tasting pretty well and easy to see that this is going to be superb. The nose offers up a refined blend of black cherries, black raspberries, a fine base of minerality, duck, dark soil tones and nutty new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, long and sappy at the core, with excellent transparency, fine-grained tannins and a long, tangy and complex finish. This will be excellent. 2024-2060. (Nov/Dec 2017)"

92-94 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Petits Monts, matured in 50% new oak (four barrels), has a slightly rustic nose with hints of dried blood infusing the red berry fruit. Maybe this is not quite as harmonious as some of Maxime Chuerlin’s other barrel samples at the moment, but it will meld together with bottle age. The palate is medium-bodied with a little chewiness on the entry. There is fine substance here, quite precise with a focused, harmonious red cherry and cranberry-driven finish. This sample was showing a touch of reduction, but my score reflects how I believe it will show once it is in bottle (of course). Drink: 2021-2038. (12/29/17)"

91-94 points Stephen Tanzer (Vinous): "(from vines just under 50 years old; malo recently finished; in 60% new oak): Bright medium ruby. Very dark aromas of blackberry, flowers and crushed rock. Savory, precise wine with terrific energy and salty minerality. Finishes very long, spicy and firmly tannic, with a captivating sweetness and no dryness. This penetrating, soil-driven wine boasts terrific cut. Cheurlin notes that this premier cru covers less than four hectares, with most of the dozen or so owners having "tiny slices," with DRC's holding the largest. (Jan 2018)"

91-93 points/'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a .23 ha parcel). Reduction. The focused, intense and chiseled medium weight flavors seem to be built on an intrinsic minerality while the tightly wound finish is shaped by dense but admirably fine-grained tannins. I very much like the balance and in contrast to the Boudots which should be approachable on the younger side this is going to need at least some time in bottle to unwind. Drink: 2026+. (Jan 2018)"
