You recognize volcanic rock, crushed red stone and other aromas that are evocative of the vineyard's geology. Vigne Valferana and Molsino have different climates, but generally speaking, these wines offer more accessible tannins and more fullness compared to Barolo. Delicately silky, mineral and floral on the long aftertaste, this is a very pretty wine and surprisingly drinkable given its young age. Readers should stock up on this wine, because in 2021 hail struck the area hard, leading to a loss of 75% of the crop, so these 2020 Gattinara wines are going to be mostly the ones you’ll find for a while.
