94-95 points Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): "The 2018 Scharzhofberger Spätlese offers a very fine and delicate, coolish, precise and flinty bouquet with bright and elegant fruit notes. On the palate, this is a finessed, beautifully round and lush yet filigreed Spätlese with sensual, silky-textured fruit and a long, complex, well-structured and salty-piquant finish. A gorgeous classic from the Scharzhofberg. Tasted from AP #6 in June 2019. Drink: 2020-2070. (Aug 2019)"

94.5 points CellarTracker.com community score.

94 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "This is the only Spätlese from the Scharzhofberg this year and it is a beauty. The wine is bright, pure and aromatically expressive (particularly for right after its mise), wafting from the glass in a refined blend of pear, white cherries, a lovely base of slate, bee pollen, lime blossoms and still a touch of wild yeasts in the upper register. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied, complex and beautifully detailed, with a lovely core, bright acids and a long, vibrant and very classy finish. A quintessential Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Spätlese. 2026-2080. (Mar/Apr 2019)"

94 points David Schildknecht (Vinous): "[$270 list] Given that this reflects very ripe material backed by over 90 grams of residual sugar, it’s amazing how much of the cress-like, green herbal aspect of the site, so prominent in this year’s Kabinetts, is on hand here as well, even on the nose. But those aspects are tempered by a glossy, subtly creamy texture, and allied to a jellied expression of white peach and pear that reflects the extreme ripeness and the bit of botrytis involved. The finish is lusciously persistent yet invigoratingly nippy and consummately refreshing. Drink: 2020-2042. (Jul 2020)"

94 points Wine Spectator: "Moving graciously on the palate, combining intensity and grace, this spätlese features a mix of orchard and stone fruit and floral aromas and flavors. Remains ethereal throughout, with powerful, well-integrated acidity. Mineral elements mark the long finish. Best from 2022 through 2038. 40 cases imported. (5/31/20)"

93 points Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 06 19. The 2018er Scharzhofberger Spätlese was fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar (92 g/l). It delivers a quite rich spectrum of ripe fruits including mango, pineapple, almond cream, yellow peach, candied grapefruit and pear on the nose. The wine proves beautifully playful on the palate, where ripe flavors of fruits are well wrapped into creamy spices, minty herbs and smoke and leaves a quite opulent and almost forceful feel of creamy and exotic fruits in the impressively long finish. 2026-2048. (Jun 2019)"
