95 points (17.5/20) La Revue du Vin de France: "Clos de la Maréchale conceals the solidity of Nuits-Saint-Georges behind a mass of black fruits, with notes ranging from cocoa to spices. Richness coats an assertive structure, which suddenly takes on curves. Over the years, this cuvée will become a fine reference for this estate. (2013)"

92 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "An overtly ripe yet agreeably fresh nose mixes notes of spice, plum, earth and black cherry. The rich, velvety and opulent medium weight plus flavors are still notably youthful and muscular yet the abundant sap buffers the moderately firm tannic spine on the delicious, lengthy and ever-so-slightly warm finale. This is also still very much on the way up and while the excellent level of dry extract would allow this to be enjoyed now, I would again be inclined to allow it another few years of cellaring first. This isn't classic and stylistically I prefer the 2010 but with that said, the '09 is excellent nonetheless. Drink: Try from 2024+. (Jun 2017)"

92 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2009 Clos de la Maréchale, being one of those Nuits St. Georges climats that really benefited from the inherent elegance of the vintage, is really outstanding this year. The nose is deep and very pure, as it offers up a complex blend of black cherries, dark berries, chocolate, really lovely soil tones, woodsmoke and gamebirds. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very long, with a sappy core of fruit, beautiful focus and balance, a fair bit of very fine-grained tannins and excellent length and grip on the tangy and nascently complex finish. This is one vineyard where the timing of the picking in 2009 could not have been better. 2015-2040. (Nov/Dec 2010)"

92 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Mugnier’s 2009 Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos de la Marechale was drop-dead gorgeous. Clos de la Marechale is another of my go-to wines, as it is readily available (by Burgundian standards) and rarely excessively marked up on restaurant lists. The 2009 was ripe, open and seductive. Although very much in the style of the year, the Clos de la Marechale also showed plenty of structure in support of the radiant, expressive fruit. Readers fortunate enough to own the 2009 can look forward to a broad and long drinking window. (Sep 2013)"

3 stars, Benjamin Lewin (In Search of Pinot Noir): "Even in the barrel sample, the nose reflects the house style; you see those chocolaty elegant red fruits with an impression of opulence. The underlying structure of Nuits St. Georges shows through, precise here yet with firm but supple tannins supporting red cherry fruits, then some tea-like tannins on the finish. Tannins are more obvious here than in the Chambolle Musignys, and the finish is drier. The difference in the tannic structure is more evident than any difference in the fruits. Drink 2015-2022. (Nov 2010)"
