100 points Robert Parker: "This wine remains one of the legends of Bordeaux. It has thrown off the backward, youthful style that existed during its first 25 years of life, and over the last 4-5 years has developed such secondary nuances as cedar and spice box. The creme de cassis, underlying floral note, full-bodied power, extraordinary purity, multilayered texture, and finish of over a minute are a showcase for what this Chateau accomplished in 1982. The wine is still amazingly youthful, vibrant, and pure. It appears capable of remaining fruity and vibrant in 2082! Thank God it is beginning to budge, as I would like to drink most of my supply before I kick the bucket. This is a great, still youthful wine, and, on occasion, one does understand the hierarchy of Bordeaux chateaux when you see the complexity and brilliance of this first-growth. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2050+. (Jun 2009)"

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "In contrast to the powerful, focused, structured 1986, the 1982 Château Mouton Rothschild is more broad, sexy, and seamless, with that rare mix of intensity, richness, and elegance, with a weightless style that's so compelling. Red and black fruits, smoked tobacco, leather, dried flowers, and chocolate all define the aromatics, and it's utterly flawless on the palate, with no hard edges, perfect balance, and an incredible finish. Just a riveting, deep, incredibly compelling bottle of wine (this was tasted from magnum), it does not get any better. (5/22/23)"

100 points James Suckling: "What an amazing red. It's so very youthful with toasted oak, light vanilla, and dark berries such as currants and blueberries. Then it turns to mint. This is so fresh and intensely fruity. It lasts for minutes on your palate with each sip. It is so powerful yet elegant. It will improve for hundreds of years. I would still leave it in my cellar for five or ten years. If you need to drink it, decant it three to four hours in advance. (3/17/15)"

100 points (20/20) Jancis Robinson, MW: "Sweet, round and absolutely gorgeous at this point, with a perfect level of spiciness. Just lovely now. Drinking Window: 2008-2032. (4/2/23)"

99 points Georgina Hindle (Decanter): "The structure, sense of power and overall force made Mouton one of the most compelling wines of this tasting. Richer, deeper and headier than the Lafite with liquorice, tobacco, truffle, dark fruits, coffee and graphite. Full, bold, upfront, this is a big wine still with muscle and sinew clearly on show. You can feel the construction, delicately put together but building to a powerful, complete and generous whole. Still lots of life, with mouthwatering acidity, a delicious crushed stone texture and spiced edges on the finish. Winemaker at the time Michel Bosq. Drinking Window: 2023-2044. (8/26/23)"

98 points Wine Spectator: "Glorious aromas. Dark ruby red. Wonderful perfumes of flowers, berry and lilac. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long and pretty finish. Balanced. Class in a glass. Just as I remember.--Bordeaux retrospective. (6/30/01)"

98 points Peter Moser (Falstaff): "Dark ruby, almost black core, watery rim. Wonderful blackberry confit on the nose, floral hints, spicy, fine cassis, a hint of nougat, typical Florentine touch. Perfectly balanced on the palate, elegant and pronounced in fruit, shows a firm, robust tannin core, mineral and salty, very good length, some leather, nougat and blackberries in the echo; a great wine with a perfect finish. (12/31/19)"

19.5/20 points Clive Coates (The Wines of Bordeaux): "Very full, rich, mature colour. Still a little closed. Full, rich, fresh and profound on the nose. This is very, very lovely. Quite a backward example but one of real power. Fullish body. Still a little residual tannin. Good grip. Marvellously rich fruit. Long, vigorous and classy. Excellent. Now-2025+. (2004)"

5 stars, Michael Broadbent's Pocket Vintage Wine Companion: "Consistently good. Half a dozen recent notes which can be summarised: still fairly deep, rich, dark cherry, positive but mature rim; sweet, glorious fragrance, distinctive Cabernet aroma, great depth, touch of mocha and mild ginger; very sweet entry, great length, dry finish with lashings of fruit and flesh in between. A great classic, dramatic Mouton. Last tasted Nov 2005."
