94 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "Alan Manley’s 2018 Barolo is a classic blended bottling, with all of the fruit co-fermented with indigenous yeasts and raised in neutral botti prior to bottling. His 2018 is the first to incorporate some fruit from the vineyard of Vignane in the township of Barolo, to augment fruit from Monforte, Serralunga and Castiglione Falletto. The wine comes in at 14.5 percent octane in 2018 and offers up a beautifully complex and transparent bouquet of cherries, gamebird, a dollop of fresh oregano, a touch of camphor, anise, a complex base of soil tones and a beautiful topnote of rose petals. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and soil-driven, with a superb core of red fruit, ripe, buried tannins, great focus and grip and a long, complex and beautifully balanced finish. This is first class, old school Barolo that simply needs plenty of bottle age to blossom. It is going to be outstanding! 2035-2085. (Sep/Oct 2022)"
17++/20 points Walter Speller (JancisRobinson.com): "Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Lifted, perfumed red fruit of great appeal with complex, minty oak notes. A mouthful of juicy cherry fruit with supple acidity and fantastic, crunchy tannins. Freshness and bite combined with elegance. Hugely appealing. Drink: 2022-2028. (Dec 2021)"
