94 points Tim Atkin, MW: "Yields were positively generous here in 2014 at 35 hl/ha, at least by the standards of hail-affected Volnay. This is a very fine, complex Premier Cru, showing some clove spice from partial whole bunch fermentation, plum and cherry fruit, textured tannins and toasty oak. 2019-26. (Jan 2016)"

90-93 points Stephen Tanzer (Vinous): "(not affected by hail; production here was 42 hectoliters per hectare; vinified with one-third whole clusters): Good deep red. Ripe, musky aromas of raspberry, smoke and flinty minerals. Rich, supple and sweet; distinctly fleshier and broader than the Mitans. Here the tannins are serious but much more fully buffered by the wine's ripe mid-palate fruit. Long on the aftertaste. An excellent showing. (Jan 2016)"

90-92 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "The 2014 Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Caves des Ducs includes one-third whole cluster fruit and has a well defined, detailed bouquet that demonstrates a little more focus than the 2014 Volnay Mitans, perhaps less rustic in style. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, quite dense tannin. This is a masculine Volnay that feels pleasingly saline in the mouth, a touch austere and broody but with a long, spicy tail on the finish. Give it 3-4 years in bottle. Drink: 2018-2030. (Dec 2015)"

90-92 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a rarely seen 1er that measures only .64 ha). Here too there is enough reduction present to mask the underlying fruit. By contrast there is a lovely sense of vibrancy to the energetic and notably finer middle weight flavors where the supporting tannins are markedly fine, all wrapped in an almost delicate, saline, balanced and linear finale. This is really quite good and should drink well both young and with age. Drink: 2021+. (Apr 2016)"
