89-91 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The NV Extra-Brut Garennes is bright, crystalline and super-precise, with plenty of lemon peel, grapefruit and floral character. This release is based on 2016, with 40% reserve wines from 2015, 2014 and 2013. The bottle I tasted was disgorged à la volée, in other words, with no dosage, hence the parenthetical score here. Laval plans to give the commercial release one gram of dosage to give this wine, the entry-level offering, a little added near-term approachability. There is certainly plenty to look forward to. It’s broad and earthy, with a generous build and a pronounced signature of heavy clay soils. There’s a hint of oak, as a portion of this was fermented and aged in new barrels, but overall this is forward in its fruitiness and more precociously accessible than Laval’s Cumières blend.
