90-93 points and 'Sweet spot/Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "A slightly more layered nose offers an interesting lemon-lime character on the acacia blossom and green apple aromas. There is terrific punch and intensity to the laser-like flavors that are almost pungently mineral-driven before delivering an explosively long, chiseled and bone dry finish. Patience required. Drink: 2024+. (Jun 2018)"
92+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2016 Derrière Chez Edouard from Olivier Lamy is even a step up from the very stylish les Frionnes and has the best depth and nascent complexity of any wine up to this point in the lineup. The first class nose jumps from the glass in a blend of pear, tangerine, sweet grapefruit, chalky minerality, citrus zest and a nice touch of fresh almond in the upper register. On the palate the wine is crisp, full and rock solid at the core, with fine soil signature, a racy personality and impressive cut and grip on the very long finish. This is superb. 2021-2040. (Mar/Apr 2018)"
92 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet lacks the vivacity of the great years. There is a little lime note beneath. Olivier notes that they had to cope with the two generations of fruit, post-frost. This is showing very well on the palate, with a citrus acidity behind surprising depth of white fruit. Plenty of fruit concentration though. Good result in a difficult year. First year of DIAM throughout the cellar. Tasted: February 2022."
89-92 points Stephen Tanzer (Vinous): "Pale lemon-yellow color. Slightly reduced, leesy scents of lemon, spices and musky flowers. Dense, ripe and juicy, conveying terrific cut and minerality to its flavors of lemon, orange oil and spices. Doesn't have quite the depth of a great vintage but finishes tactile and chewy, with strong minerality. (Sep 2017)"
91 points William Kelley (Decanter): "The regular bottling of Derrière Chez Edouard is very attractive, offering up notes of apple, tart pear, white flowers and wet stones, subtly framed by a touch of new oak. It's a deep, full-bodied wine with a lovely line of racy acidity, a solid core, and a lovely vein of almost saline minerality. Drinking Window: 2020-2030. (10/19/17)"
