94 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): "Slightly reserved on the nose, this has an uncommon textural richness on the palate with substantial extract and grippy tannins that lead to an impressive finish. This cuvée is produced from a hectare of village-level vines spread across several lieux-dits that are all in the centre of the village, touching the premier crus, and are more than 50 years of age. The fruit is destemmed and gently fermented before ageing in mostly used casks to preserve the purity of fruit. Drinking Window: 2025-2040. (Nov 2021)"

92-94 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "Glowing purple, possibly more discreet first nose, certainly refined. This has an extra dimension of finesse, a little more power, younger oak too, greater length maybe but doesn’t have quite the same impact as the first Volnay did because now I am becoming attuned to the brilliance of the vintage here. (Oct 2021)"

93 points Christy Canterbury, MW (TimAtkin.com) (2022).

90-93 points/'Outstanding/Top value,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a blend of vines that average 55+ years of age situated in Grand Champs, Echards, La Gigotte and Pluchots). This is aromatically similar to the straight Volnay but with more evidence spice and floral elements. There is outstanding intensity to the dense and powerful flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the impressively long, balanced and firmly structured finale. This is absolutely terrific for its level and easily boxes above its weight. Drink: 2028+. (Apr 2022)"

92+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2020 Volnay 'Vendanges Selectionées' from Domaine Lafarge is stunning this year. The beautiful bouquet soars from the glass in a blaze of plums, sweet dark berries, duck, a gorgeous base of soil tones, dark chocolate, woodsmoke, just a whisper of oak and a lovely topnote of violets. On the palate the is deep, pure and full, with a sappy core of fruit, fine transparency and grip, fine-grained tannins, tangy acids and a very long, complex and utterly seamless finish. Fine juice. 2032-2075. (Nov/Dec 2021)"
