93 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): "The 'entry-level' Volnay is anything but, with pronounced purple and black fruit aromas accented with a hint of black tea and liquorice. The texture has subtle, grippy tannins, balanced acidity and a lingering finish. The grapes are from 1.7ha of vines spread over six lieu-dits including Les Famines, Les Buttes and Des Cros Martin. The grapes are destemmed and gently fermented before ageing in used casks. This wine should be approachable soon after release and is perfect for mid-term ageing. Drinking Window: 2027-2045. (11/11/24)"

90-92 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "Mid crimson purple. The nose is a little more restrained. Now some lively cherries on the palate with very good grip, a little bit of white pepper, with the fruit returning effortlessly behind. Smoothly charming. (Dec 2024)"

91 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2023 Volnay AC from Domaine Lafarge is an outstanding village wine in the making. The bouquet is pure and precise, wafting from the glass in a mix of red plums, both red and black cherries, a lovely foundation of soil tones, woodsmoke, gamebird and just a touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and elegantly structured, with a nice touch of sappiness at the core, fine soil inflection and grip, fine-grained tannins and really impressive length on the complex and seamlessly balanced finish. 2033-2075. (Jan/Feb 2025)"

91 points Christy Canterbury, MW (TimAtkin.com) (2025).

90.8 points CellarTracker.com community score.

89-91 points/'Outstanding/Top value,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a mix of vines that average about 40 years of age in Brouillard, Buttes, Famines, Pasquiers and Cros Martin). A superbly elegant, high-toned, cool and airy combination of the essence of various red berries, anise and a floral top note is complemented by refined and energetic middle weight flavors that flash evident minerality on the lingering, balanced and lightly austere finale. This is very Volnay is character and one to consider. Drink: 2030+. (Apr 2025)"
