89-92 points/'Outstanding/Top value,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a mix of vines that average about 40 years of age in Brouillard, Buttes, Famines, Pasquiers and Cros Martin). A more complex nose features notes of plum, violet, red currant, forest floor and a whiff of herbal tea. The dense, serious and almost painfully intense flavors possess a seductive texture thanks to the abundance of sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer the firm, serious and youthfully austere finale. This is also excellent for its level and the presence of the old vines in 2021 is evident. Drink: 2028+. (Apr 2023)"

91 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): " Like the Meursault AC bottling this year, the 2021 Volnay includes all the old vine fruit (such as there was produced) that would normally go into the Vendanges Selectionées cuvée. The result is a superb village wine, offering up scents of red plums, cherries, raw cocoa, a complex base of soil, gamebird, just a hint of oak and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is precise, full-bodied, focused and has a lovely core of pure fruit, with fine soil signature and grip, fine-grained tannins and a long, complex and seamlessly balanced finish. Fine, fine juice. 2029-2065. (Nov/Dec 2022)"

91 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): "The Lafarge family suffered 80% losses in the 2021 vintage and have combined their production of Volnay into just two cuvées, one village, and one premier cru. They have done their work carefully and well to produce a delicious wine with fragrant raspberry fruit and floral aromas. The texture is silky and fine, with fresh acidity, light body, and a very elegant balance. This will drink well on release and will hold for a decade at least. 2025-2045. (Nov 2022)"
