91-94 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "An even mid purple. Stricter on the nose, firmer tannins in the middle, but a wealth of dark red fruit as well, more on the austere side but with excellent persistence. (Dec 2024)"

93+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The terroir of the premier cru of les Mitans usually produces quite black fruity wines in their youth, but the 2023 version from the Lafarges shows a lovely mix of red fruit in its aromatics and flavors this year. The wine’s bouquet is a very pretty blend of red and black cherries, red plums, coffee bean, dark soil tones, pigeon, bonfire and just a touch of new oak. On the palate thew wine is pure, full-bodied and beautifully transparent in personality, with a sappy core of fruit, ripe, buried tannins seamless balance and a long, complex and beautifully energetic finish. This wine has great backend lift! 2037-2085. (Jan/Feb 2025)"

93 points Christy Canterbury, MW (TimAtkin.com): "Pretty aromatics of bramble, boysenberry, cool forest breezes and crushed chalk lift from the glass. The spherical palate is seriously intense yet shows classic Volnay elegance. This is a combination of two parcels, each at opposite ends of the appellation vinified separately. One is 45 years old and the other is 73. (2025)"

91-93 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2023 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru is aged in 15% new oak. It has a cohesive bouquet with raspberry, wild strawberry and crushed iris flower scents. It gains intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red and black fruit. Quite compact on the mid-palate, it offers orange rind and sour cherries on the finish. Drink this over the next 15 years. Drink: 2026-2042. (Jan 2025)"

91-93 points/'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from Mitans proper; destemmed manually). Perfumed aromas include those of red currant, dark pinot and a broader range of spice elements. There is again fine volume to the rich and relatively concentrated medium weight flavors that also flash evident minerality on the lightly austere, balanced and equally firm finale. Lovely. Drink: 2033+. (Apr 2025)
