93+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The terroir of the premier cru of les Mitans usually produces quite black fruity wines in their youth, but the 2023 version from the Lafarges shows a lovely mix of red fruit in its aromatics and flavors this year. The wine’s bouquet is a very pretty blend of red and black cherries, red plums, coffee bean, dark soil tones, pigeon, bonfire and just a touch of new oak. On the palate thew wine is pure, full-bodied and beautifully transparent in personality, with a sappy core of fruit, ripe, buried tannins seamless balance and a long, complex and beautifully energetic finish. This wine has great backend lift! 2037-2085. (Jan/Feb 2025)"

The spherical palate is seriously intense yet shows classic Volnay elegance. This is a combination of two parcels, each at opposite ends of the appellation vinified separately.
