95 points Christy Canterbury, MW (TimAtkin.com): "Lightly smoky and meaty, the strawberry and rhubarb preserve flavors are lifted by scents of lavender and dried flowers. Filigree tannins and buoyant acidity give this medium-bodied wine supreme lift and a sense of lightness. 2024-35. (2022)"

94 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2020 Volnay 'Mitans' from Domaine Lafarge is another beautiful wine in the making. The wine offers up an aromatic constellation that is very precise this year, wafting from the glass in a blend of red and black cherries, plums, gamebird, stony minerality, bonfire, a touch of bitter chocolate and a deft framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and soil-driven, with a lovely, sappy core, ripe, buried tannins and a long, tangy and very complex finish. Great juice. 2035-2085. (Nov/Dec 2021)"

94 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): "This 0.4ha plot of vines is located at the base of the slope and faces southeast. The thoroughly ripe grapes in 2020 have yielded this wine with a pleasantly dark, plummy fruit and a subtle mineral undertone. The texture is elegant and silky, but not lacking length. Delicious. Drinking Window: 2025-2040. (Nov 2021)"

92-94 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "Opening in the glass with aromas of cassis, plums, rose petals and sweet soil tones, the 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Mitans is medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a concentrated core of fruit, lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins, concluding with a perfumed finish. (1/20/22)"

92-94 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2020 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru has a slightly earthier bouquet than its siblings this year, a litle more introspective. The palate is more expressive with red berry fruit, allspice and a touch of dried orange rind. There is ample energy and plenty of structure on this Mitans with a tingle on the tongue after the wine has departed, not unlike Japanese shiso leaf. This should age wonderfully in bottle. Drink: 2025-2045. (Dec 2021)"

91-94 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "From two plots, both in the Mitans sector rather than Ormeau. Destemmed by hand. Mid purple with classy fruit if slightly less dense than some of the preceding wines. It is still beautifully elegant and balanced, with an agreeable fresh crunch to the finish. (Oct 2021)"

91-94 points/'Sweet spot/Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from Mitans proper; destemmed manually). Once again there is a lovely array of spice elements present on the cool, pure and layered aroma of poached plum, dark berry coulis and violet hints. The vibrant and solidly concentrated flavors possess a succulent mouthfeel thanks to the abundance of sappy dry extract that coat the palate on the balanced, graceful and sneaky long finale. This too is excellent. Drink: 2030+. (Apr 2022)"
