91-95 points Fine Wine Review: "It’s taken Lafarge a few years to completely master the Volnay-Caillerets that he acquired some years ago, but now it’s starting to really sing. The wine is perfumed in the nose and shows the very fine texture typical of Caillerets with subtle red fruits and some acidity. Although there is slight sappiness here, the wine shows Caillerets laciness. (Issue #125; 2009)"

93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "With every passing year the Caillerets in the Lafarge cellars (which only came into the fold with the 2000 vintage), becomes finer and more profound, and I assume this is a result of the vineyard fully starting to take advantage of the Lafarge biodynamique viticultural regimen. The nose is a stunning mélange of cherries, blood orange, lovely spice tones, woodsmoke, fine minerality and a pungent topnote of roses. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and by a good measure the most profoundly mineral of all of these lovely 2007s, with a flamboyantly sappy core, ripe, well-integrated tannins and great length and grip on the tangy and superb finish. Fantastic Volnay. 2016-2040. (Jan/Feb 2010)"

93 points/'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a parcel measuring 7ouvrées, or around .3 ha of 40+ year old vines). This is not more elegant or refined than the Clos du Château des Ducs but it is more complex with riper and darker fruit that includes cool and ultra pure blue and black pinot aromas, floral notes and wet stone where the latter suffuses the textured, sappy and mouth coating medium-bodied flavors oozing with dry extract that completely buffers the otherwise firm but ripe tannins on the powerful finish that is brilliantly persistent. Like its stable mate, this is terrific and absolutely worth your attention. Drink: 2019+. (Apr 2010)"

(Note on bottle condition: These older Lafarge wines are from a perfect French cellar, and its relatively high humidity has incurred some mold and cosmetic degradation of the labels. These cellar conditions are identical to the Lafarge cellars themselves, where bottles are not labeled until immediately prior to shipment, as they're blanketed with black mold until that point. The bottles are otherwise pristine with excellent fills and capsules. Images may be furnished upon request. -WHWC, May 2024)
