The bright and complex bouquet hops from the glass in a beautiful blend of red plums, red and black cherries, woodsmoke, dark soil tones, a gentle framing of vanillin oak and a beautiful floral topnote redolent of both violets and lavender. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, complex and soil-driven, with a great core of pure fruit, ripe tannins and a long, tangy and impeccably balanced finish. A riper and distinctly earthier nose also freely offers up its array of poached plum, underbrush and a whiff of humus character. There is both good volume and verve to the delicious and sappy bigger-bodied and more powerful flavors that also conclude in a long, balanced and youthfully austere finale that is noticeably more structured.
