96 points Falstaff: "Ethereal nose, floral, somewhat closed, very peppery. On the palate, it has an almost sweet attack, is very silky and fine-grained, round and harmonious, with well-integrated acidity, has pressure and substance, and a great deal of tactile minerality. Cabernet-like finish, good length. (4/24/15)"

96 points (18/20) La Revue du Vin de France: "Very appealing today, the 2012 is a model of classicism, fragrant and floral, with fine tannins and a delicious finish. It has all the qualities needed to evolve gracefully. (2016)"

95 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "The 2014 L'Evangile comes racing out of the blocks on the nose with plenty of black cherry, blueberry, cold stone and black truffle scents, quintessentially Pomerol with impressive delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly grainy texture, lovely black fruit here laced with Earl Grey, spice and sage, quite intense and fanning out gloriously towards the long finish. This seems to have gained precision after bottling and I did warn that it may merit a higher score. This is a deeply impressive L'Evangile that might challenge Lafite-Rothschild in the long term. Chapeau! Drink: 2024-2045. (Mar 2017)"

94 points Jane Anson (Inside Bordeaux): "(82% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc). Rose petals aromatics, attractive juicy character, there is balance here, and a slow unrolling of liquorice, black chocolate, peach pit. I got a second bottle of this, and it really delivered the depth and texture that you want in L'Evangile, but worth noting there may be bottle variation. 80% new oak. Alcohol 14%. Drink: 2024-2036. (2/1/24)"

94 points Chris Kissack (Winedoctor): "A somewhat curious nose here, the first bottle just a touch high-toned beneath which there are some rather crystalline fruit characteristics, red cherry and redcurrant, wrapped in old leather, liquorice, dried roses and mint. A second bottle seems the same, other than replacing the first element with an array of coffee bean aromas. The palate majors on texture, dark flavour and ripe powdery tannins, with no hint of the volatile elements seen on the nose, just plenty of liquorice and toast, with a rich wrapping of finely knit tannins, producing a broadly textured substance. This ends up looking pretty impressive, and I don’t feel dissuaded by those high-toned coffee-bean beginnings. Well done. Drink or hold, although the tannins suggest the latter. The alcohol on the label is 14%. (Feb 2024)"

94 points James Suckling: "The blackberry, mushroom and oyster-shell character really comes out. Full body and flavors of dark chocolate, walnuts and concentrated berries. Structured. Bitter-chocolate aftertaste. Try drinking in 2022. (2/13/17)"

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Big, bold and ripe, this is a rich wine with its 82% Merlot. It is jammy while keeping its tannins and structure. Ripe and full in the mouth, the wine is firm enough to age for a long time. It is going to be generous, full and ripe. Drink from 2025. Alcohol 14%. (Apr 2017)"
