96 points Stephen Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): "From the Rhine shore and cultivated on sandy loess soils with a high chalk content, the 2017 Riesling Trocken Sankt-Nikolaus "GG" is fine and intense on the pure, fresh and even chalky and flinty nose. On the palate, this is a dry Riesling that is pure and fine yet deep, lush, very complex and crystalline, very persistent and salty with fine tannins, a stunning nervosity for such a warm site and a driving vitality with concentrated and long-lasting Riesling flavors. This is a great wine from a difficult vintage and a milestone for Peter Bernhard Kühn. The Sankt Nikolaus suffered neither spring frost nor hail in 2017, which makes this the greatest 2017 of the domaine so far. Bottled in April, tasted in May 2019. Drink: 2020-2040. (Jan 2020)"

93+ points Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 07 19. The 2017er St. Nikolaus Riesling Trocken, as it is referred to on the consumer label, is a bone-dry wine (with less than 4 g/l of residual sugar) made from 60 year-old vines and was fermented and aged on its lees in large used casks for 18 months before being bottled (hence the late AP number). It displays a gorgeously aromatic nose of spices, coconut milk, yellow peach, fine spices, and candied grapefruit. The wine proves tight and quite tannic on the superbly elegant palate and leaves a gorgeously focused and almost sharp feel of zesty grapefruit and lime in the long finish. The after-taste is bone-dry and still almost painfully tight. This is still very much work in progress and should only emerge from this backward phase in a couple of years. There is huge potential, especially if the tannic elements fade into the background. 2025-2037. (Oct 2019)"
