97 points Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com): "So incredibly fine and silky, this glides over your palate, pulling you with it. Frankly grapey, but also flinty with stacks of wild herb complexity. Quite some richness on the mid-palate, then comes the very refined finish with great stony intensity, the tannins expertly held in check. Extremely low yield. Drink or hold. (11/13/23)"
96 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "Klaus-Peter Keller’s 2022 Hipping Riesling Grosse Gewächs is an absolutely stunning young wine. The red slate soils of this iconic vineyard in Nierstein have clearly excelled in this vintage, as this is the most elegant young rendition of Hipping I can ever recall tasting from the domaine. The bouquet is pure and refined, wafting from the glass in a complex blend of peach, blood orange, pink grapefruit, a kaleidoscopic base of slate, a touch of petrol, wild yeasts and a topnote of lemongrass. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and utterly seamless, with a great core of fruit, superb soil undertow, bright, tangy acids and a very, very long, perfectly balanced and complex finish. This is breathtakingly beautiful juice! 2032-2085. (Jul/Aug 2024)"
94 points Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 30 23. The 2022 Hipping, as it is referred to on the front label, is immediately appealing and attractive with finely aromatic notes of grapefruit skin, minty herbs, spices, white pepper, vine peach, thyme, and pear. The wine proves superbly juicy and finely fruity on the palate, with a hint of creaminess. The finish has plenty of energy with a touch of tartness, which still needs to integrate. The aftertaste is still a little compact and slightly broader. This is a very impressive dry Riesling in a more forceful yet captivating style. 2029-2042. (Sep 2023)"
93+ points Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): "The 2022 Riesling Niersteiner Hipping GG opens with clear, deep, elegant and delicately spicy fruit that is still slightly reductive but ripe and concentrated. This is dense, firm and juicy on the palate, with good fruit intensity and phenolic structure. The acidity is fine, fresh and salty, and the finish is long and intense. It's an impressive Riesling from the heat of the red slope. Drink: 2023-2036. (12/29/23)"
19/20 points Julia Harding, MW (JancisRobinson.com): "Tank sample. Red slate, steep slope. Basket-pressed like all their top wines. Rich, spicy ripe pears, riper than in some vintages but still with a peppery minerality. Like the Obere Hubacker, this has the fumy herbal character of spontaneous fermentation but as that blows off, there’s a peachy sweetness to the aroma, greengage. Mouth-watering, intense, precise. There’s power, not trying to impress. Salty finish. Remarkable to get this freshness with this much power. Drinking Window: 2025-2040. (3/18/23)"
