97 points Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com): "Beware! Some people think that Kabinett means a light, fruity piece of vinous fluff, but this one is dangerous! Radical minerality and spice, married to fresh pineapple. Then comes the finish that blows the roof off the house. Drink or hold. (8/16/20)"
95+ points Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 31 20. The 2019er Niersteiner Pettenthal Riesling Kabinett was harvested at 83° Oechsle and was fermented down to barely fruity-styled levels of residual sugar. The wine still proves hugely backward and marked by quite some residual scents from its spontaneous fermentation. These only gradually give way to truly magnificent and deeply complex scents of flowers, lime, herbs, anise, greengage, spices, and smoke. The wine captures one’s attention with its sense energy and tension on the intense and multi-layered palate, where flavors of lime and grapefruit interplay with plenty of spices. The wine is still very tight but also incredibly pure and electrifying in the more off-dry than fully fruity-styled tasting finish. This is a stunning Kabinett and the remarkable thing is that we would not be surprised if it will even exceed our remarkably high expectations at maturity. It is truly thrilling stuff! 2029-2044+.
