92 points Wine Spectator: "A broad-shouldered red, with vivid blueberry, bittersweet chocolate and black olive flavors that power toward big but refined tannins. Best from 2020 through 2026. (2/28/19)"
92 points Decanter: "K Vintners was the first of Charles Smith's wine brands, launched in 1999. MCK stands for Motor City Kitty, named after a cat he owned when living in Walla Walla. Fruit, from the Oldfield block in Yakima's renowned Boushey Vineyard, is fermented in concrete, with 49 days on skins, before ageing for 19 months in puncheons, 35% new. Very expressive, succulent and rich, with minerally black fruit, tapenade, iodine and an armatic lavender finish. Drink: 2020-2026. Alcohol 14.5%. (Jan 2020)"
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Though labeled as Washington State, all of the fruit from this wine comes from Oldfield Vineyard in the Yakima Valley, next to famed Boushey Vineyard. The aromas are brooding on first pour, with notes of berry, fresh herb, orange peel, ground rock, bacon fat and smoke. The palate is full of seamless fruit and savory flavors. The tannins give a firm squeeze. Give it a decant if opening in the near term. Alcohol 14.5%. (Oct 2018)"
Producer notes: "With all the depth and richness you've come to expect from this single vineyard bottling - black cherry, earth, roasted meat, even charcoal abounds add dried herb. A thread of minerality and it all comes together in an exact and generous expression that speaks volumes as to why Washington Syrah is great!"
