Even with all of its richness, the 2012 is showing beautifully today, largely because the vintage has softened some of the contours, resulting in an unusually generous, inviting young Vaucrains. At the same time, there is plenty of depth to reward cellaring. Rose petals, sweet red berries and cinnamon all inform the silky, perfumed finish. Drink: 2019-2037. (Jan 2014)"

The exceptional nose jumps from the glass in a refined blend of red and black cherries, cocoa, woodsmoke, gamebirds, a touch of balsam bough, a very, very complex base of soil and a deft framing of cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and youthfully sappy at the core, with a lovely signature of soil, ripe, fine-grained tannins and excellent focus and balance on the very, very long, pure and primary finish.
