94 points/'Cellar Selection,' Wine Enthusiast: "[$150 list] Situated at the entrance to a break in the hillside of the Côte d'Or, allowing cool air to come in from the west, Lavaux Saint-Jacques produces severely structured wines that need aging. This prime example shows the solid, dense structure and the powerful tannins that dominate the wine. Underneath, the opulent black fruits promise aging. Drink from 2020. Alcohol 13.5%. (Dec 2014)"

91-94 points/'Sweet spot/Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "A slightly riper and more obviously animale infused nose features notes of red berries, wood, earth and plenty of humus character. There is outstanding mid-palate density to the less obviously mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that possess good focus and power on the impressively persistent and beautifully complex finale. This possesses a lovely sense of harmony and punch as well as very ripe supporting tannins. Drink: 2024+. (Apr 2014)"

91-94 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Good bright, deep red. Red cherry, stony minerals, rose petal and a suggestion of chocolate mint on the nose; reminded me of a slightly earthier version of a Clos Saint-Jacques. Densely packed, saline and intense, with terrific energy and a restrained sweetness to the flavors of red fruits and minerals. A lovely precise, perfumed midweight with a slowly mounting finish offering a strong impression of soil character. (Jan/Feb 2014)"

91-93 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Not surprisingly, the Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux-Saint-Jacques is one of the more powerful, inward wines in this series of 2012 Gevrey 1er Crus. Smoke, iron, red fruit and chalk are some of the notes that are alive in the glass. The Lavaux is dense and quite compact, an impression that is reinforced by the firm tannins. Readers need to be patient here. Drink: 2022-2037. (Jan 2014)"

91-93 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques is more understated than the Cazetiers on the nose, unfolding to reveal more forest floor/mushroom aromas neatly entwined amongst the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, refined, quite elegant tannins and a composed finish that is more finesse than power. Very fine. (12/29/13)"
