92 points Vanessa Conlin (The Wine Independent): "At Il Poggione, this 2022 Rosso di Montalcino is not considered a second wine, as the fruit for the Rosso is from a separate and specific part of the vineyards that they vinify seprately. In the 2000s, they started using some smaller barriques in conjunction with the larger vessels to accelerate the maturation. This is aged for 12 months in small and large casks, and an additional 6 months in bottle aging before release. Aromas of bright red cherry and pomegranite surface first, with tree bark and black olives following. Very pretty and pure on the palate with mouth-watering acid, sleek tannins, and a vibrant finish of freshly-picked strawberries and savory herbs. Drink 2024-2029 (Dec 2024)"

92 points Raffaele Vecchione (WinesCritic.com): "Imposing and decidedly solid in the sensory profile, it shows notes of black plums, blackberries, dark chocolate and hibiscus. Medium-full body, biting tannins with an excellent presence in the matrix and a rich and truly performing finish. Drink now. (Nov 2023)"

91 points Kerin O'Keefe: "The full-bodied 2022 Rosso from Il Poggione is solid and almost meaty, delivering fleshy black cherry, licorice and baking spice alongside tightly woven, close-grained tannins. Drink through 2027. (Jan 2024)"

91 points Eric Guido (Vinous): "A dark, deep red, the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino smolders up with a blend of grilled herbs, dusty earth, incense and rose. It's cool-toned and lifted in feel, with soft textures and ripe violet-laced red berry fruits. This finishes staining and long with a youthfully chewy sensation and framing tannins. Sweet lavender and cocoa notes gradually taper off. Drink 2025-2030 (Sep 2024)"

90 points Audrey Frick (JebDunnuck.com): "A deep red/magenta color, the 2022 Rosso Di Montalcino sees a portion of barrique for its aging and is ripe with aromas of black cherries, violets, and sweet herbs. Medium to full-bodied, it’s plush on the palate, with ripe tannins and a clean, iron-rich, mineral finish. Warming and generous, it’s a lovely Rosso that could give insight to what readers into what to expect for the style, which is not always the case in this region at the moment. Drink 2024-2030. (Feb 2024)"

90 points James Suckling: "Ripe plums, chocolate, oranges and spice box on the nose, followed by a medium to full body and rich layers of toasty, chocolatey fruit accompanied by dusty tannins. Drink now. Screw cap. (May 2024)"
