100 points Eric Guido (Vinous): "The incredibly complex 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Madonna delle Grazie Riserva takes its time evolving in the glass, drawing you in with nuances of black tea, incense and allspice. Further swirling invokes depths of dried black cherry, ashen stones and cinnamon. This is a textural masterpiece, weighty yet graceful, penetrating, tart and intense, all balanced by radiant acidity as masses of red fruit envelop the senses. The 2020 leaves the palate stained with primary concentration, finishing structured and long with the silkiest tannins imaginable. A tinge of pomegranate and clove fades over the course of a minute or more. Deceivingly approachable yet harmonious and balanced for the long haul, the 2020 Madonna delle Grazie Riserva is one of the most captivating wines I've ever tasted from Montalcino. Drink: 2029-2046. (Nov 2025)"

100 points Monica Larner (Wine Advocate): "Alessandro Mori has a complicated relationship with the Riserva category, having produced the wine from 1980 to 1988 before abandoning it, only to return with a one-off release in 2013. With the Il Marroneto 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Madonna delle Grazie, we see the next chapter. Alessandro Mori insists there is no formula for deciding when a Riserva is made. “Every year is different,” he says. “It’s not science; it’s a feeling. One person is named Alessandro and another person is Alessio; they are just different people.” While he is contemplating another Riserva in 2025, he is quick to note that it is far too early to know. Born in the auspicious botte number 18 and aged for 58 months, the 2020 Riserva leans into a dark fruit spectrum with elegant aromatics and a profoundly silky texture. High phenolics were evident from the outset, prompting Alessandro Mori to call it “a monster,” yet the wine completed an extraordinarily slow and gradual fermentation lasting three and a half years, a rarity made possible thanks to native yeasts and the absence of temperature control. That long evolution has shaped remarkable texture and stability, finishing with generosity, freshness and a finely etched tannic lift. Full-bodied yet seamless, this is a true 360-degree wine, sensual, rich and deeply expressive. As Alessandro Mori reflects, “Wine is not perfect. It becomes perfect with time. That’s how it finds its true balance.” Produced in just 150 magnums, this is a rare and spectacular bottle from Il Marroneto. Drink: 2028-2060. (Jan 2026)"

100 points Michaela Morris (Decanter): "The second-ever Riserva from Il Marroneto is undeniably one of the vintage’s outliers – and quite simply in a class of its own. The Mori family nailed it when they identified this single barrel of their Madonna delle Grazie cru and let it continue refining in cask for an additional nine months. Despite spending a full four-and-a-half years in wood, the 2020 is still incredibly youthful – starting with its opaque purple colour. Haunting scents are reminiscent of rambling through the forest; the wet mulchy floor, mushrooms and wild berries. Nuances of flint, lilac and tobacco are teasingly ethereal. Tense yet confident, it vibrates with scintillating acidity. Velvety tannins are tightly woven into the layers of crunchy brambles. It's exquisitely sculpted but will take years to divulge the full spectrum of its splendors. A true Riserva if there ever was one. Drinking Window: 2029-2047. (Nov 2025)"

97-100 points Audrey Frick (JebDunnuck.com): "The second of three selections from the vineyard, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva Madonna Delle Grazie is a stunning wine and is poised to become the second-ever release of a Riserva wine from the estate. (The first was 2013.) Tasted from a single barrel of production, it is still alive with active reduction nearly three years on that will take time to fully resolve. After several moments in the glass, it opens to remarkable concentration and potent depth that has nearly port-like decadence only countered by its chiseled and weightless feel. It offers a haunting and musky perfume that lasts for ages, alongside a balanced yet full arching profile. Not for the faint of heart, this wine floods the senses with a lavish appeal, yet somehow maintains restraint and freshness, with a prolonged underlying tension. (Mar 2023)"

99 points Aldo Fiordelli (JamesSuckling.com): "A deep and smoky wine that’s multilayered and compact. The nose shows dried flowers, incense, licorice, graphite, restrained red cherries and pomegranates. Full-bodied, dense and velvety, it’s still youthful on the austere palate yet ripe and tight-knit with crisp acidity. Not ready to drink. Best from 2030. (Oct 2025)"

98 points Raffaele Vecchione (WinesCritic.com): "Plums, raspberries, currants, and wild myrtle are the main aromas of a structured yet absolutely composed and elegant reserve. Hints of laurel, juniper berries, and hibiscus enliven the secondary notes. Full body, perfectly ripe and well-extracted tannins, and a beautifully solid finish with a monolithic character that is easily digestible and appreciable. Best from 2029. (Nov 2025)"
