88-89 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2017 Bourgogne rouge from Charles was still a bit shut down after its bottling, but with a bit of coaxing, shows a pretty nose of red and black cherries, chalky soil tones, woodsmoke and a nice touch of raw cocoa. On the palate the wine is medium-full, focused and nicely balanced, with a bit of backend tannin, a good core and fine length and grip. As this was just bottled, I have scored it in a range, as was the case with the Meursault. 2020-2035. (Nov/Dec 2018)"

There is good cut and excellent punch to the utterly delicious flavors that exhibit only a trace of rusticity on the nicely complex and focused finale. As is often the case, this is a very good example of the genre and would make a fine choice for an all-around house red. Drink: 2020+. (Jan 2019)"
