There is plenty of smoke-tinged, almost flinty black and red fruit with a very harmonious, quite structured finish that feels persistence and satisfying. The medium weight plus flavors are slightly finer yet as is virtually always the case with a typical Millandes, there is excellent power to the mineral-inflected finish that goes on and on. This is quite firmly structured and is definitely going to require most of a decade before it will arrive at a point where the tannins have softened sufficiently to be enjoyed plus it should continue to improve for another 5-ish years after that. The nose is offering quite rich and intense red and dark berry fruit. Despite the 60% whole cluster grapes it’s still very much Morey at heart. On the palate a somewhat darker and more muscular – well constituted – without being dense and old school. A fine Morey 1er in the making. Drink from 2028. Tasted from cask: 22 Jun 2017."
