The focus for Fresnet in crafting vintage rosé is to emphasise both the style and the year, while respecting the blend. In this ambition, the great 2012 is a successor that come oh so very close to reprising the sublime performance of the 2008. A medium crimson salmon hue proclaims impressive depth for 10% pinot noir red wine. This cuvée proclaims a magnificent vibrancy even for 2012. A core of elegant and tangy strawberry, red cherry and raspberry fruit carries through a long and elegant finish of lively acidity. The presence of Aÿ is declared in emphatic and alluring chalk mineral texture that infuses the energy and stamina of this cuvée, holding it resolutely primary and youthful, even at nine years of age. 95 points Decanter: "After a worrying start to the 2012 growing season, a warm summer resulted in good ripeness come harvest. The blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay is all from premier cru and grand cru sites in the southern Montagne de Reims, in Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Avenay-Val-d’Or and Mutigny. Dosage was at 7g/L, and the finished wine was matured in bottle for at least eight years prior to release. Peter Liem: A sophisticated nose shows the elegance and dimensional depth that long lees ageing can bring. On the palate, textural richness and energy. This is delicious now but will increase in character and complexity. Alan Bednarski: Pinot Noir leads with ripe red cherry and blueberry mixed with liquorice, dried red petals and subtle ripe quince. Expressive with all-round appeal. Claire Thevenot MS: Lees ageing brings savouriness and power here. This is still on the young side and has a long life ahead. Drinking Window: 2022-2042. 93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2012 Henriot Brut Rosé is a simply stunning bottle of bubbly. The color is a fairly deep salmon rose and the bouquet is pure, ripe and beautifully detailed, wafting from the glass in a vibrant mix of raspberries, blood orange, chalky minerality, a touch of rye toast, beautiful, almost exotic spice tones of cardamom and clove, rose petals and a topnote of citrus zest. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and very precise, with an excellent core of fruit, fine soil signature, refined mousse and a long, balanced and very complex finish. This is dynamite Rosé that is drinking very nicely at age seven, but has the potential to age long and very gracefully. 2019-2050. (Sep/Oct 2019)"
