93 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2018 Haut-Sarpe is very showy today. Bold and expansive in the glass, with soaring aromatic presence, the 2018 is impeccable right out of the gate. Dark cherry/plum fruit, mocha, spice and new leather blossom over time. Pliant and supple, with soft curves, this finely-crafted, vibrant Saint-Émilion checks all the boxes. Terrific. Drink: 2026-2043. (Mar 2021)"
93 points Chris Kissack (Winedoctor): "The 2018 Haut-Sarpe opens with a fresh and fragrant nose, one rich in the scents of perfumed fruits. It has a quite strong floral character to it, with nuances of red peony and rose, and even a little touch of bright pomegranate and citrus peel, an unexpected theme in a vintage otherwise plush and dark. The palate is polished and lightly textured, filled with tightly grained structure, and carrying the same floral red peony and rose notes seen on the nose. All in all this is an elegantly poised wine, supple and fresh, with a long and finely grained finish. This should do very nicely in the cellar. The declared alcohol is 14.5%. (Sep 2021)"
93 points James Suckling: "Currants, licorice and blackberries with some flowers and stewed blueberries on the nose. Medium-to full-bodied with a tight, intense palate and a chewy finish. Yet, the tannins remain fine and polished. Try after 2023. (1/21/21)"
92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Based on 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Château Haut-Sarpe has a solid, medium to full-bodied, nicely textured and concentrated style that shows the rich, sunny style of the vintage yet still has notable freshness. Lots of red and black cherry fruits, notes of leafy herbs, chocolate, damp earth, and flowers, a great mid-palate, and ripe tannins all make for an outstanding Saint-Emilion that will benefit from 2-4 years in the cellar and drink well over the following decade. Drink: 2023-2033. (3/11/21)"
91 points Peter Moser (Falstaff): "Dark ruby garnet, deep core, violet reflections, subtle edge brightening. Delicate herbal spice, fine balsamic nuances, delicate hint of liquorice, hint of tobacco. Medium body, red berry touch, good freshness, integrated tannins, mineral, some nougat, slightly drying in the finish, an uncomplicated food companion, traditional style. Alcohol 14.5%. (2/14/21)"
90 points Jane Anson (Decanter): "Concentrated cassis, fig, black pepper and olive notes through the palate. This certainly speaks to the heat of the year, with tannins accentuated by full extraction and a touch of bitterness on the end. There is good winemaking going on here though, and a deftness that will become clearer after another few years. 30% new oak. Drinking Window: 2024-2040. (11/10/20)"
