93 points Falstaff: "Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate edge brightening, dark forest berry confit with a mineral character, fine precious wood spice, smoky-balsamic undertones. Juicy, fine cherry fruit, sweet tannins that are well-integrated, sticks well, mineral-salty aftertaste, pleasant extract sweetness on the finish, sure aging potential. (Feb 2013)"

3 stars/'Exceptional'/'Coup de Coeur,' Hachette Guide 2013: "Symbols of the success of families from Correze established in the Libourne region, the Janoueix family run a large number of vineyards, both as growers and as wine merchants. Haut-Sarpe is their flagship, with 21.3 ha of vines on the highest point of the Saint-Émilion hillside. Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc have given birth to a 2009 of great expression: the deep color is adorned with ruby hues; the nose is marked by ripe red and black fruits, enhanced by a beautiful licorice freshness and a fine woodiness. The palate is fleshy, generous and intense, sustained by solid tannins and an elegant mineral structure. Equipped for long ageing (ten years or more)."

Château Haut Sarpe boasts dark fruit, toast and vanilla notes. Well-balanced, with refined, long tannins, this wine has a light, elegant structure and shows a great deal of charm.
