100 points Robert Parker: "This wine, which first debuted in 1990, has probably garnered more perfect scores than any other Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2001 is just entering a young adolescent stage of development, exhibiting extraordinary nuances such as sweet, loamy soil and earthy minerality intermixed with some background smoke, black currant liqueur, plum, Asian spice and new saddle leather. Full-bodied, it possesses great intensity, with stunning flavors that are viscous enough to coat the mouth, but never become heavy or overbearing. The wine has a remarkable purity, concentration and intensity that should carry it for another 30+ years. This is already very promising, and for those who own it, I would suggest a good two to three hours of decanting prior to service. (Jun 2011)"

100 points (20/20) The World of Fine Wine: "A stunner, with a complex bouquet of earth, violets, graphite, tea, and cedar-box aromas, even a floral hint. Its powerful, concentrated flavors are bursting with dark berry fruit. More structured and complex than most vintages, it shows balance and finesse. Bob Levy thinks it’s like a 47 Cheval Blanc. I don’t buy that, but I think it will improve even more with several years’ aging and will last another 20 after that. This was definitely one of the estate’s top vintages, as it was for many other producers in the Napa Valley. (Dec 2014)"

99 points (19.5/20), Decanter: "Classic, powerful, ripe, supple and very complex, with notes of minerals, liquorice, tobacco and violets. Yields were very low, less than 1.5 tonnes per hectare. Drink: 2014-2025. Alcohol 14.5%. (Aug 2014)"

Stephen Brook (The Finest Wines of California): "Brawny, powerful, blackfruit nose, yet pure and without any tarry character. Lavish and very oaky, but the tannins are supple, and the fine acidity supports a long, majestic finish. Powerful but balanced. (2011)"
