93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The Guigal family’s regular bottling of 2019 Saint-Joseph is produced primarily from their own vineyards purchased in 2000 and 2001 in the heart of the original appellation, centered around the villages of Tournon and Mauves. They buy some additional fruit from other growers in the same vicinity to make up sufficient quantity for this bottling, but all purchased fruit also comes from granitic vineyards. The wine is aged entirely in “one wine” barrels and comes in at 14.5 percent octane in 2019. It delivers a deep and fine aromatic constellation of cassis, black raspberries, pepper, spit-roasted venison, bonfire, a touch of cedar and a fine base of stony soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, focused, full-bodied and complex, with a superb core of fruit, ripe, buried tannins, excellent balance and grip and a long, youthful and very promising finish. This is first class Saint-Joseph and a fine value! 2029-2065. (Sep 2023)"
92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "From the southern part of the appellation and brought up all in used oak, the 2019 Saint Joseph is another ripe, sunny, textured beauty. Red and black fruits, ground pepper, and spice as well as medium-bodied richness and sweet tannins all make for a terrific Saint-Joseph. It will keep for a decade as well. Drink: 2022-2032. (12/15/22)"
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fresh aromas of concentrated red fruit framed by licorice and blackberries, followed by a brambly layer fill the glass. Brooding dark fruit generously coats the palate, balanced by its refreshing cut of acidity. Approachable now, but best to cellar well through 2028+ before revisiting. Alcohol 14.5%. (Dec 2023)"
92 points Jeff Leve (The Wine Cellar Insider): "Fresh, round, lush, ripe, and forward, it is already easy to take notice of, and enjoy all the dark red fruits, smoke, espresso, herbs, olives, and dash of salt. Drink from 2022-2034. (Oct 2022)"
91 points Joe Czerwinski (Wine Advocate): "Black cherries, some loam-like earthy notes and a hint of smoked meat mark the nose of Guigal's 2019 Saint-Joseph. Showing a bit more complexity now than it did prior to bottling, it's medium to full-bodied, smooth and silky, ready to drink yet capable of holding for up to a decade post-vintage. Drink: 2024-2030. (5/16/24)"
91 points James Suckling: "Aromas of sliced plums, sage and bay leaf. Medium-bodied with silky tannins. Juicy and succulent red fruit with lovely freshness and subtle ground spice. Drink now. (8/22/22)"
90 points Wine Spectator: "[$45 list] Juicy and direct, with an open-knit core of bitter plum and red cherry notes laced with singed balsam wood, red tea and savory accents. Drink now through 2028. (2/28/23)"
