Ripe black raspberries, spring flowers, smoke, and some meaty nuances all shine here, and it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, fine tannins, and ample charm and character. The cépages this year is again ninety-six percent syrah and four percent viognier, with the wine aged for three years in small oak barrels. Fifty percent of the casks are new, so the wine shows a nicely new oaky personality on both the nose and palate. The bouquet delivers scents of cassis, smoked meats, a fine base of soil tones, dark chocolate, pepper, woodsmoke, a touch of bacon fat and cedary oak. On the palate the wine is deep, ripe, full-bodied and complex, with a superb core of fruit, good soil undertow, ripe, chewy tannins and fine balance on the long, focused and very promising finish. All this lovely wine needs is enough time in the cellar to start to soften up its chassis of tannin. 2035-2075. (Sep/Oct 2024)"
