93+ points Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): "The 2018 Riesling Smaragd Ried Trenning is from one of the highest (550 meters above sea level!) and coolest vineyards of the entire Wachau, where the 50-year-old vines root in weathered gneiss soils with a lot of graphite. The bouquet is bright and spectacularly pure, fresh and flinty, as if it were full of quartz or crushed iron. Lush and concentrated on the round and silky-textured palate, this is a full-bodied, very intense, fruity but also concentrated, tight and mineral Riesling from a vineyard that I had never heard of before, not to mention having tasted a wine from there (in October 2019). 13% alcohol. Drink: 2020-2040. (3/31/20)"
93 points Wine Spectator: "[$102 list] An expressive white, with prominent flavors of lemon oil, passion fruit and roasted pineapple, balanced by powerful acidity that cuts through, giving this length and liveliness. Spice and beeswax details emerge, leading to savory mineral elements on the finish. A bit intense now, so better to wait a few years. Best from 2022 through 2032. 7 cases imported. (2/29/20)"
